Molds won't stay in

For the last six months I've been having trouble being fitted for BTE aids. I can't get the shells to stay in my ears despite every possible thing I can think of to do to insert them properly. I've had 3 molds done by my audiologist and there still isn't any improvement. Is this unusual? I had in-the-ear aids for six years before this with no problems. Are BTE models always more problematic?

No BTE aids are not more problematic, I would say they are probably less. If you've worn ITE aids before then theres no reason that the molds wouldn't fit properly because it's really the same concept. The impression the audiologist is sending to the company needs to be exact and the mold that is made from that impression also needs to be exact. I once had a situation in which an ITE mold kept coming back wrong, and when compared to the mold, the impression was clearly different. Something I now do when doing an impression is that I have the person constantly open and close their mouth while the wax material is in the ear hardening so that the impression will be better shaped to accommodate how the ear canal is shaped in all situations. It really seems to have made a difference.
