Adjusting kneepoint and compression

Quick question. I've done a very limited amount of research, but I'm thinking that if you set the kneepoint low, the compression will also be low, is that correct? If yes, then which hearing aid can I set the kneepoint and compression to be that much. My experience with digital aids has been that the sound is comfortable enough but the tone is too low. My thought is that if I can adjust the kneepoint to 50, the compression will also be less and I can hear speech better because of the higher gain. Anybody done something like this? Did it work?

I tried that and it worked for me. My hearing aids have the ability for me to manually adjust the kneepoint and compression ratio each channel individually(Precisehearing.com). Originally I had kneepoint set at 45 dB and everything sounded kind of dull. I then set the kneepoint up to 55 dB prior to the compression kicking in which caused conversation to sound more natural to me. It sounds like you are on the right track. Best of luck.
