Keeping aids dry

I just got new HAs and my audi warned me to keep them dry, she even suggested going so far as to put them in descant overnight. I'm wondering what happens if they get moisture in them?

My concern is that it rains a lot here. What about getting caught in a downpour? Do I have to take them off before going from house/restaurant/store to car if I know its raining outside? If so, does that mean I have to always carry a waterproof container?

I have to go to and from my car many times a day, so I went out and bought one of those floppy hats that covers my ears. I just keep it in the car. It’s cheap and ugly, but I only wear it going to my car and back. I sometimes get caught in the office when it starts raining and my hat is in the car across the parking lot; I just removed the aids, opened the battery doors (so they wouldn't squeal) held one aid in each hand until I got to the car. I also carry a plastic sandwich bag and an extra hard shell storage case that I got from my audi that I also keep in the car so I can store the aids if I need to.

Try a pocket dessicant. It could be simple as an empty cigarrette box with a small cloth bag of rice or other drying powder in it and it's good to keep your hearing aid dry in the box.
