Hearing aids for a teacher

Hello everyone,
I'm a 34-year-old school teacher and I've finall got to the point where I need a hearing aid. I've only decided today to make an appointment and go see an audi. I wanted to arm myself with some information first, I never realised that there were so many different types of HAs on the market!!
I want my HA to be as discreet as possible. However, due to the nature of the environment I work in, I also need them to be able to adjust from a noisy to a quiet environment without causing me too much trouble.
Could anybody tell me exactly how discreet the CIC units are? Are they discreet enough that nobody would know I was wearing them unless I told them or are they fairly visible so that those who I work with (and kids) would be able to spot them fairly easily?
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I understand what you're saying. I been wearing HA for 44 years. I started out with BTE that were big and ugly when I was younger. I got the chance to switch to CICs and was happy for many years. My Aud wanted me to go back to BTE for more power and I wanted to cry. I had some very bad childhood memories. But I did it anyways. I am currently trying the Phonak Smart IX and I just love them. Nobody knows that I even have them on, but I show them to everyone. They are cool. I am using them with the power receiver, which is larger in the ear compared to the open fit.

I have had both CICs and BTEs.
The BTEs win hands down:
-They are less visible. Yes, really they are. The CICs are visible in the canal, whereas the BTEs have very slim virtually transparent wire connected to a slim speaker which is hidden well inside the ear.
- They also have much better feedback management.
I had CICs for 5 years in total before "down-grading" to BTEs. I should have down-graded earlier!
I too have reasonably short hair for a man, and there is enough to hide the small modern BTEs. By short, I mean maybe 1-1.5 inches on top.

Hi guest! Thanks for giving good information in hearing aids. Hearing aid is an electro acoustic device which typically fits in or behind the wearer's ear, and is designed to amplify and modulate sound for the wearer. Thanks!

I started wearing aids when I was very young and progressed through BTE, ITE, and ITC HAs until when I was about 27 I got my first set of CICs. It turned out to be an outward adjustment to my identity because no one (who didn't already know me) knew that I wore HAs. Some were surprised to learn it. That's my way of saying that the CICs are very discreet. I fully understand wanting your aids to be as unnoticeable as possibly and the CICs did that for me.
