Hearing Loss is not age-defined

The inability to hear speech and other sounds can appear in any individual. Age, gender, race is of no importance. In the United States alone, an estimated 28 million people have some form of hearing loss, and more than a million school-aged children have a hearing loss that can consequently effect speech/language improvement and education. Hearing loss can be volatile or nonvolatile, mild or profound. Fortunately, in most cases, something can be done to improve the hearing impaired person's ability to communicate. For many, the purchase of a hearing aid is the first step in rehabilitating their hearing and reconnecting with the world around them

In India, hearing impairment occurs after the age of 20.

You say that 28 million people have some sort of hearing loss and more than a million are children in school. That is a very small number of the 28 million so I still believe that age is a major factor. There are plenty of case studies done showing that as we age, our bodies are not as handy as they once was including our hearing.

One-third of Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 have hearing problems. About half the people who are 85 and older have some sort of hearing loss whether it be severe or mild. Especially with the baby boomers, a lot of the population is older.

There is an article that deals with newborns suffering from hearing loss:

Quote:
"Hearing Aids Should be Used Sooner Rather Than Later"

When a parent finds out their child may have hearing damage it is upsetting news and what happens if they find out too late? It is important that newborns and young children are tested and diagnosed of potential hearing damage early on in life, since their speech development depends on it. The sooner the child is diagnosed with hearing loss, the faster they can get the help they need and more information on the usage of hearing aids.

There are screenings that are done on newborns to check their Miami hearing, but sometimes babies are misdiagnosed due to the ear canal being blocked with amniotic fluid. Many children are not properly diagnosed of being hard of hearing until they are one years old or older, which is when the underdevelopment of their speech is noticeable.

Hearing loss is one of the most common disabilities in newborns, affecting 2 out of every 1,000 babies, this is why parents need to do a follow up after their child has been screened, to make sure everything is ok. Valuable time is lost when diagnosis is delayed. Beginning auditory stimulation is essential for the maturation and cognitive growth of the central auditory system.

At the age of 15 years old I was diagnosed with inner ear hearing loss (high frequencies). Six years ago I had a hearing gain after changing my diet but couldn't maintain it, therefore couldn't prove it.

These last fifteen months I have researched and experimented with my diet and medication hoping to prove a sustainable hearing gain (something which the doctors say is impossible. I've posted my result and conclusions so far.

To find out more about how changing your diet could improve your hearing please visit my blog at http://dawnshearingnow.blogspot.com where I have posted everything I've tried - backed up with comments and credibility both from UK Hearing Research Center and from Long Island CA.

Hearing research instutions understand that inner ear hearing loss mostly occurs from middle age upwards but can also occur at any age.
I was diagnosed with inner ear hearing loss at the age of 15 years old. I'm now trying to prove that this particular type of hearing loss is cause though a reaction that is caused when we eat. Whether it is the foods that causes a bodily disfunction or whether it's a bodily disfunction that cause a reaction to foods is a question that is yet to be answered. However I've found out that if you eat between 2g-20g of sugar (that's the cane or beat variety) with each meal you can minimumise this reaction and hopefully, over time, regain your hearing and health. Age-related hearing loss is thought to be a decline in the nerve function of the ear as individual’s age. And age-related hearing loss, or presbycusis, is the slow loss of hearing that occurs as people get older.
