Stigma against hearing aid users

It seems that some people have a social stigma against hearing aids. Am I blind to it or do some people have a problem with hearing aid users?

Its far more noticable to constantly be asking people to repeat themselves than to wear hearing aids, even if you have short hair. People don't really notice and my experience has been that even if they do, they don't care.

Only other hearing aid users notice other people wearing hearing aids. Most people are surprised when I tell them that I'm wearing aids. And even once they know, I certainly don't feel any stigma against me.

Hi guest! “Stigma” is a term that I’ve seen applied to people with hearing loss for over fifty years, one that I thought insulting the first time I saw it and even more so now. The hearing problem thoughtless association of the term “stigma” with hearing loss is that it fosters the development of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Thanks!
