Problems with the Cielo2

I recently purchased a pair of Cielo 2 Life hearing aids. These are the open fit design. I have had a continuing problem with feedback and squeeling.

I have had them reprogrammed continually but the problem still remains. It seems to occur mostly when I am in a very quiet environment. Higher frequency noises, such as birds chirping, the key buzzer in my car, even certain music, makes the squeeling occur. It is not due to being too close to a solid object. (I can understand feedback under those circumstances, such as putting my hands close to my ears.) I've had this occur even outdoors. I'm starting to think this might be a flaw in the open fit design. Can this problem be resolved with more expert programming? Could it be that the person I bought them from is not experienced enough to completely understand all that is involved in programming? After watching him programming, (he lets me see the screen) I can see that it is not an easy task.

It sounds like the problem might be in the feedback cancellation system of the hearing aid. Siemens Cielo 2 life uses phase cancellation feedback reduction. Hearing aids with this type of cancellation often have problems with such environments.
Whenever random high frequency sounds occur, the hearing aid tries to cancel the sound. Phase cancellation controls feedback by producing a sound opposite of the feedback. Because the sound is not actually feedback, the hearing aid whistles incessantly until you turn it off.

I would suggest having your dispenser change the setting on your hearing aid to "slow" for feedback. If entrainment is the problem, this should fix it.

Other possibilities may include the compression settings, the positioning of the tip in your ear, or you may need a custom ear mold to make certain the sound bore is focused down the center of your ear canal.

We tried the 'slow' setting for the feedback cancellation, but that didn't work. We also tried tubes that placed the tip closer to my eardrum but it didn't help. Haven't tried the compression settings. Hopefully that will help.

I went from Resoud Pulse to Siemans Cielo 2 Active. I was very unhappy with Resound and thought they did very little for my hearing in a way that mattered. I heard more highs... but the street noise was unbearable. I had purchased the aids to better hear womens voices in business meetings but it didn't help at all.

You need to try a hearing aid with high amounts or Channels. Starkey has 15 channels in some models, others with as many as 32 channels. The frequencies are separated into independent channels thus better definining what the wearer of the hearing aid "hears".

I think, Cielo 2 Life is easily the feature leader in economy priced open ear digital hearing aids. Siemens improved the Cielo Life to be a strong competitor with its newly released Cielo 2 technology. CIELO 2 combines Siemens proven technologies and features into a single, affordable hearing aid. It is an excellent choice if you are looking for a mid-level digital hearing aid with many advanced features.
